News: Gurugram: 'Link road in shambles, no repairs in two years'-10-01-2021
GURUGRAM: Thousands of families living in sectors 82 to 85 are having a tough time commuting as the main connecting road between Vatika India Next and Pataudi Chowk is in a dilapidated condition. Despite several requests to the authorities over the past two years, the road hasn’t been repaired, residents said.
A 300m stretch on the road in particular is full of potholes, making commuting risky, they said. “We’ve raised the issue at various platforms in the past couple of years, but no action has been taken,” said Deepak Bhardwaj, a resident from Sector 82.
He further said driving on the road is dangerous when it rains, and several accidents have been reported on the stretch. “Vehicles often get stuck, and it then turns into an accident-prone area for residents as well as other commuters,” Bhardwaj said.
Residents said there are several residential projects of Vatika Group, SS Group, Mapsko and Antriksh Developers on the stretch and they have been jointly raising the issue at various levels, including the developer concerned, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), department of town and country planning, CM window and others, to no avail.
The residents have been particularly demanding completion of the master sector road, which is stuck in litigation. Residents have also sought that the master sector road be connected with the national highway.
According to a rough estimate, around 5,000 families live in sectors 82 and 83, which were developed by private builders. While the builders are responsible for infrastructure inside the condominiums and the 24-metre roads, the responsibility of master roads and other services lies with GMDA.
When contacted, a GMDA official said there is a plan to repair the road under the metropolitan authority’s annual maintenance plan.
GMDA had carried out some repair work, but it was only a short-term measure, residents said. “There is a land dispute with Sikanderpur villagers, due to which construction of the master road has been delayed. After repeated complaints, GMDA filled the potholes in a shoddy manner, which did not last for long and the road again became pothole-ridden within a few months,” said Abhinav Garg, a resident.
