News: Gurugram: HSRP system online, but no end to queues-05-01-2021
GURUGRAM: With Delhi Police routinely penalising vehicles without high-security registration plates (HSRP), residents in the city are rushing to the centres set up by the district administration for the issuance of the same. They, however, are forced to grapple with long queues and alleged mismanagement at these centres.
Residents complain that the agency hired by the state government for issuing HSRPs is unable to manage the process. And in spite of the government claiming that the HSRP process would be entirely online without any need to visit the centres, people are forced to visit them as the online process has yet not streamlined.
At these centres, residents say they are forced to stand in queues for hours and often turned back without any proper communication about their next appointment.
Major Atul Dev (retd), 82, said, “I had applied for HSRP and a car sticker and based on my appointment, I had turned up at the centre last week. The centre was flooded with people. Thanks to a good samaritan, my receipt reached the counter. After 2-3 hours of standing in the queue, I got back my receipt as the sticker hadn’t arrived. I wasn’t even told when to return.”
Regional Transport Agency (RTA) and the company hired for installing the HSRP in the state — Link Utsav — have, however, claimed that the registration process is being managed well and it's only the fitting of plates that is taking time to streamline as the home delivery will take another two weeks to begin.
“Registration process is going fine. However, we are currently unable to deliver the registration plates at home. In two weeks, it should be taken care of. Also, people have woken up to the urgency of getting the plates installed at the last moment that too after the Delhi government stepped up its challan drive,” said Ravi Bharadwaj, state head of Link Utasav.
“We have increased our counters from 2-3 to almost 10 to attend over 800 people visiting on a daily basis. Moreover, we have tied up with over 40 dealers across the city to facilitate the process,” he added.
