News: No lights on 3km stretch linking SPR with new sectors for 4 years-25-11-2020
GURUGRAM: Residents living in new sectors along the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) have raised concerns about the lack of streetlights on a 3-km-long stretch of the main sector road in the area.
More than 2,500 families living in several housing societies in the area, including Tulip Violet, M3M Escala, AIPL The Peaceful Homes, BPTP Astaire Garden, Paras Irene and GPL Eden Heights, are having a difficult time commuting due to the absence of streetlights, they said.
Residents pointed out that the stretch between Tulip Violet and Paras Irene has no streetlights. As a result, the entire area is pitch dark after sunset, posing a serious security risk to the residents.
They alleged that they have made several complaints to the authorities concerned over the matter for the past four years, but to no avail. Rajat Srivastava, a resident of BPTP Astaire Garden in Sector 70A, said: “This area continues to be pitch dark at night. People living here are apprehensive about their safety and security while stepping out. Even after repeated complaints to the authorities, nothing has been done to resolve the issue.”
They added that area has become unsafe for the residents, especially women. “It is scary to drive at night on the road from SPR leading to our sector at night. Earlier, I had written to Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), after which they installed lights on SPR, but the sector road needs attention too,” said Somika Chandhok, a resident of GPL Eden Heights, Sector 70.
Several incidents of theft, chain snatching, harassment and carjacking have been reported in the area, residents said. “The stretch is dangerous at night and the situation will be much grave with the foggy conditions in the coming days. This is a matter of urgency and the authorities must act promptly,” said Achal Sangal, vice-president of Tulip Violet RWA, Sector 69.
Meanwhile, a senior official of HSVP, which is responsible for streetlights on the stretch, said they have already the cost estimate for installing lights on all the master roads from sectors 68-80 to the headquarters for approval.
“We installed streetlights on the master road from SPR to Sector 69 three months ago, and the estimate for the rest of the roads has already been submitted. Once we get the approval, we will float the tender,” HSVP superintending engineer Arun Dhankar said.
