GURUGRAM: Connectivity has been a major concern for homebuyers and residents in new sectors. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) —which is responsible for the development of master roads— has identified 90 trouble points (locations) that are causing hurdles in the road development work. While the land for the development of master roads in the new sectors has been acquired, many landowners had approached the court and filed petitions against the acquisitions. In all 145 such cases had been filed, of which 90 are still in the court. GMDA is now working on a plan to resolve the issues, related to these areas, so that there can be seamless connectivity across these sectors. GMDA chief VS Kundu said that there are 90 such locations where the roads are not connected. At some places, the length of these disputed stretches is as small as 100 meters. “One of the focuses this year is to develop a well-connected road network in the new sectors. We have identified the trouble areas and are now working on ways to resolve these issues,” said Kundu. “We will approach the court and the concerned parties and try to find solutions at the earliest so that the road network can be developed,” said Kundu adding that his team has been brainstorming to resolve these issues for the past three months.
When asked about the internal roads, Kundu said ‘that does not fall under GMDA’s ambit’. Even if the authority wants to develop the internal roads in these sectors, the cost of land acquisition is very high and GMDA won’t be able to afford that. “We have, however, been discussing the matter with the state government as well as the other concerned departments to come up with a solution so that the residents don’t suffer,” Kundu said
