News: Ashok Kapur on how decades of Japan visits shaped Krisumi City in Gurugram-15-10-2026
Ashok Kapur, chairman of Krisumi Corporation, regards Japan as his second home. Over about 35 years of repeated visits he has taken away lessons in discipline, time management, professional commitment and lasting relationships. Together with his background in the automobile business, these shaped the idea behind Krisumi, a venture that brings Japanese design sensibilities and Indian hospitality to Gurugram.
Krisumi Corporation is a joint venture between Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation and India’s Krishna Group. Its integrated development, Krisumi City, in Sector 36A along the Dwarka Expressway, offers Japanese-inspired architecture and amenities, and has a community that includes residents from Japan.
Kapur admires how Japanese professionals work, with punctuality, attention to detail and a commitment to delivering what is promised. His automobile experience also exposed him to Japanese standards of quality checks and consistency, and he wanted to bring such principles into how housing is planned and delivered. He has described the partnership with Sumitomo as a lifelong relationship, comparable to marriage, and believes the same approach should extend to homebuyers through quality and delivery.
The company says about 125 Japanese nationals live in the development. Its project update lists 100 expatriate residents, including 97 Japanese nationals, one Sri Lankan, one Korean and one Venezuelan, who lease homes at an average rate of Rs 100 per sq ft. A Japanese store and restaurant serve them.
At Waterfall Residences, the developer reports 395 possessions, with 205 residents having moved in; 88 homes are owner-occupied and 117 are leased. Waterfall Residences, Waterfall Suites and Waterfall Suites II are sold out, with limited inventory left at Waterside Residences.
Krisumi City combines residential, commercial, retail, hospitality and social infrastructure. The Cascades Club is a 162,000-sq-ft private members’ club with dining, lounges, an indoor sports arena, spa experiences inspired by Japanese traditions and members-only events. For Kapur, the larger aim is to bring two cultures together through a long-term partnership.
