News: Noida officials enlist RWAs and AOAs to spread PM Surya Ghar rooftop solar scheme-12-10-2026
Officials in Noida are asking resident welfare associations (RWAs) and apartment owners’ associations (AOAs) to help spread the Centre’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana in housing societies and high-rises. In Gautam Budh Nagar, 4,010 households have already installed rooftop solar under the scheme.
The district has received 5,822 applications, 5,783 of them residential. Vendors have been selected in 5,368 cases, and of the 4,010 completed installations, 3,861 have been inspected, 3,621 have final approval and 3,555 beneficiaries have received central assistance.
Nikhlesh Rajan, Deputy Registrar of Firms, Societies and Chits in Ghaziabad, who also handles GB Nagar, asked association office-bearers to publicise the scheme. Staff and vendors will run free awareness drives with canopies and pamphlets, and associations should not charge residents.
Lavesh Kumar Sisodia, in-charge project officer at UPNEDA in Gautam Budh Nagar, said the focus now is moving eligible consumers from registration to installation and approval.
Residents register on the PM Surya Ghar portal by choosing Uttar Pradesh and their electricity distribution company and entering their consumer account number. After feasibility approval, they install the system through a registered vendor, a net meter is fitted, and after inspection the subsidy goes directly to their bank accounts.
KK Jain, general secretary of FONRWA, said the federation has encouraged members to promote the scheme, and an RWA meeting was held last year before the district magistrate.
