News: DDA proposes converting Copernicus Lane plot used by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan to public use-02-10-2026
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has proposed changing the land use of an 8,494.35 sqm plot on Copernicus Lane in Lutyens’ Delhi from residential to public/semi-public (PSP), according to a notice issued on Thursday.
The parcel, covering plots 12, 14 and 16, is used by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, a charitable public trust. The change is part of a proposed modification to the new Master Plan for Delhi. The notice, issued under Section 11-A of the Delhi Development Act, 1957, invites objections and suggestions within 30 days through the DDA online portal, email or in writing to the commissioner-cum-secretary.
An official, speaking anonymously, said the land is used for residential school activities and other permitted educational facilities, and the plan is to build a state-of-the-art institute. The change would allow only institutional structures while existing activities continue, with no commercial activity and only the trust’s own funds used.
The proposal can be inspected at the office of the deputy director, Master Plan Section, at Vikas Minar, and on DDA’s portals.
