News: Delhi civic body opens SUNIYO 2.0 amnesty window for settling old property tax dues-30-09-2026
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced a new property tax amnesty scheme, Sampattikar Niptaan Yojana (SUNIYO) 2.0, to help settle old dues.
Standing committee chairperson Satya Sharma said on Tuesday that taxpayers who pay the principal tax for 2026-27 and the previous seven years, 2019-20 to 2025-26, will get relief from outstanding dues, interest and penalties for the period before 2019-20. He described this as the One Plus Seven approach.
Taxpayers with a total liability of Rs 5 lakh or more can pay in equal instalments during the scheme period, but the benefit ends if the full liability is not paid within the stipulated time. The scheme runs from September 29 to December 31, 2026.
To benefit, taxpayers must file their return on the MCD Property Tax Portal and pay the tax. Those with receipts for pre-2019-20 payments can upload them, and owners with more than one Property Identification Number (UPIC) for a property can merge them online. A receipt is generated automatically after filing and payment.
The corporation will scrutinise returns filed under the scheme between April 1, 2027 and March 31, 2028.
