News: Chintels seeks permission to bring down Tower J, the sixth unsafe block at its Gurugram condominium-22-09-2026
The developer of Chintels Paradiso in Gurugram has asked the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) and the district administration for permission to demolish Tower J, which was declared unsafe in 2024, officials said.
Five towers, D, E, F, G and H, are already down. Towers A, B and C will follow once residents vacate by December 31, as the Supreme Court ordered on September 3. The court also told the developer to rebuild within four years and pay rent to eligible homeowners. Demolishing Tower J would take about two months after approval.
JN Yadav, vice president of Chintels, said Tower J is already vacated and the contractor has deployed men and machinery, and work will begin once permission arrives. Rakesh Hooda, president of the Chintels Paradiso RWA, urged that permission be granted soon to avoid delaying reconstruction.
Tower D partially collapsed on February 10, 2022, during repair work. IIT Delhi experts declared five towers unsafe, and Tower J was declared unsafe in 2024. Under the order, Chintels must pay fixed rent for alternative housing to eligible owners from January 31, 2027, until they get possession, plus a one-time relocation charge of Rs 40,000 to each homeowner in Towers A, B, C and J. A senior DTCP official said the district committee headed by the deputy commissioner will decide on the proposal.
Launched in March 2011 in Sector 109, the project saw possession delayed to mid-2018, and the 2022 collapse killed two residents. In September 2026 the Supreme Court approved a reconstruction plan with CIPL and Sobha Limited, with occupants vacating by January 1, 2027, work starting by March 31, 2027, and handover within 48 months.
