News: Cushman & Wakefield counts 7,714 acres of housing land deals between January 2021 and March 2026-10-09-2026
More than 7,700 acres of land were bought for housing projects between January 2021 and March 2026, according to a Cushman & Wakefield report released on Wednesday, ‘Building India: Land Markets Define the Next Development Frontier’. Overall, 18,158 acres were transacted across more than 880 deals in 33 cities, including outright purchases and joint development agreements, for residential, commercial, logistics and industrial, and data centre projects.
Residential deals anchored volumes, the report said, with 7,714 acres transacted. The cities include Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Noida (including Greater Noida), Pune and Kolkata, among others.
Outright purchases totalled 10,910 acres, while joint ventures and joint developments accounted for over 4,405 acres. Long-lease and redevelopment transactions added nearly 2,520 acres and 323 acres.
Anshul Jain, Chief Executive, India, SEA, MEA and APAC Office and Retail, said the land could create nearly 1.4 billion sq ft of future built-up stock. He named three shifts: corridors alongside cores, scale over fragmentation, and partnership over ownership. He called the land being assembled today a forward order book for the next decade and said Indian real estate is entering its most durable and investable phase.
