News: Delhi LG clears Master Plan 2047, replacing the earlier 2041 target, as DDA backs a redevelopment policy-12-08-2026
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Wednesday approved the Delhi Master Plan 2047, which is meant to guide the city’s planned growth, officials said. He chaired a Delhi Development Authority (DDA) meeting that also decided to frame a uniform policy for redeveloping the agency’s old two-storey residential units.
The DDA said the plan takes an integrated approach to housing, economic growth, mobility, environmental sustainability, infrastructure, heritage conservation, urban regeneration and citizen-centric governance. The authority had been preparing MPD 2041 after MPD 2021 expired, and it was renamed MPD 2047 to align with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. It will go to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for final approval and notification.
The DDA noted that old schemes built under MPD-1962 have two-storey units over 50 years old and structurally deficient. Vacant plots have clear redevelopment guidelines, but built-up units lacked a uniform framework.
