News: Finished but shut: 300-metre skywalk between two Noida metro stations stays closed for over a year-22-04-2026
A 300-metre skywalk meant to link the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) station in Sector 52 with the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) station in Sector 51 remains shut, with finishing work pending. It has been ready for over a year and is held up by technical issues, leaving thousands of daily commuters inconvenienced.
NMRC, which built the foot overbridge, says it will open soon but has not given a date. Krishna Karunesh, chief executive officer of the Noida authority, said the air-conditioned bridge is not yet open because finishing work is on and a beam in its path must be demolished first.
Commuters instead use a dusty, poorly maintained 300-metre stretch crowded with vendors, auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws. Daily commuter Bhoomika Singh called it a civic failure, noting that it floods in the rains. Other commuters said restaurants near Sector 51 station have been given priority over passengers, with parking carved out of space meant for them.
Rushmeet Kaur said entry and exit points at Sector 51 have been barricaded with iron sheets for parking, forcing people to walk an extra 100 to 150 metres, which she called dangerous in an emergency. The barricades have also narrowed the Sector 52 station exit.
At Sector 52, construction of a mall between the stations has led to more barricading and a narrow, badly managed road. Waterlogging is routine, and commuters place bricks in the water to cross. Student Ashwini Singh warned that waterlogging, congestion and poor pathways could lead to a stampede, and IT professional Priya Singh said the lack of traffic regulation makes the stretch nearly impossible to navigate at peak hours.
