News: Gurugram police arrest Vipul Ltd chief Punit Beriwala over Rs 6 crore lawyers’ investment fraud-01-03-2026
The economic offences wing of Gurugram police on Friday arrested the head of an NCR real estate firm for allegedly cheating lawyers of Rs 6 crore with a promise to double their money in a local property project. Police shared the details on Saturday.
The accused is Punit Beriwala, 62, from Malviya Nagar in Delhi, who now lives in Sector 42, Gurugram. He is the chief executive officer of Vipul Limited, which has its office in DLF Phase-IV.
Police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said Beriwala collected Rs 6 crore in 2024 from several lawyers in Gurugram and Rohtak. He told them the money would go into his firm’s Gurugram project and double soon. The lawyers chased him for months for an update without success, and on August 25 last year they staged a protest at his company’s club on Sohna Road. Police say he had used the money in other projects of the firm.
After realising they had been cheated, the lawyers filed a joint complaint. An FIR for cheating and criminal conspiracy was registered on October 1 last year at Shivaji Nagar police station against Beriwala and two other officials of the firm.
He was produced in court on Saturday and sent to two days of police remand for questioning. Vipul Ltd did not respond to requests for comment.
