News: Haryana Sets Nov 7 Deadline to Overhaul 100 Gurugram Roads-08-10-2026
A 30-day challenge to upgrade 100 roads across Gurugram by November 7 has been launched by the Haryana government, officials said. The work covers recarpeting, streetlights, footpaths, lane markings and clear signage.
Officials said the selected roads will be at least 500 meters long and will get comprehensive improvement, not patchwork.
The directives were issued on Thursday by Rajesh Khullar, chief principal secretary to the Haryana chief minister, at a meeting with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP). Each road is to carry an information board with a QR code showing the department in charge, the responsible officer and timelines.
Khullar launched three other initiatives. Under a 24-hour civic complaint challenge, residents can report garbage points, potholes, sewer overflows, non-functional streetlights and trees needing pruning online, to be resolved within 24, 48 or 72 hours depending on the complaint. Where delay is found to be due to employee negligence, Rs 5,000 may be paid to the complainant and recovered from the employee.
Ten iconic roads will be developed with improved streetscape and amenities, including designated smoking zones, wheelchairs and boards listing rules and penalties. Enforcement teams with body cameras will be authorised to fine violators, and MCG will introduce penalties for spitting and disposing of chewing gum in public.
The "Our 500 Metre Area" plan seeks to involve RWAs, schools and market associations in keeping a 500-metre radius clean.
GMDA, MCG and HSVP must also prepare a weekly scorecard of progress, to be published in newspapers every Saturday with officials’ signatures.
