News: NHAI Readies Rs 980 Crore Elevated MG Road Plan for Delhi-02-10-2026
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has finalised a detailed project report (DPR) for an elevated section of MG Road from the Haryana border to Andheria Morh in Delhi, and has appointed a consultant to prepare a feasibility report for upgrading the Gurugram stretch.
A senior NHAI official said the Delhi section’s elevated portion would be around 4.5 km, with the rest at grade, at an estimated cost of around Rs 980 crore. The project has internal approvals and will go to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for final approval before tenders are floated. The stretch from the Haryana border to Andheria Morh is around 8.5 km, while the Haryana section from Iffco Chowk to the border is around 5 km.
For Gurugram, the consultant will examine widening and elevated sections wherever possible. The official said limited space and metro stations along the road pose a challenge, and a traffic survey will be conducted. NHAI is also exploring a direct link between MG road and the Delhi Gurgaon Expressway for traffic bound for Manesar and Jaipur.
The Gurugram section is maintained by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), which took it over from the Public Works Department, Haryana. In March, the ministry assigned MG road to NHAI and designated it a highway.
Last week, GMDA CEO PC Meena asked officials to examine redevelopment of Iffco Chowk, an FOB near the malls and a grade separator near Sikanderpur. A senior GMDA official said NHAI developing the entire stretch would be positive.
