News: Iffco Chowk to Be Redesigned; Sikanderpur Under Study-29-09-2026
Iffco Chowk will be redesigned and redeveloped to ease congestion on the MG Road stretch, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) chief executive officer PC Meena said on Monday, also asking officials to study the feasibility of a flyover or underpass at Sikanderpur.
After inspecting MG Road, Meena told the engineering wing to coordinate with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on the Iffco Chowk redevelopment. A traffic expert may be engaged to study traffic patterns and suggest improvements to vehicle flow, pedestrian movement and the junction’s functioning. The plan should also account for existing utilities and identify where they need strengthening, he said.
For Sikanderpur, a senior GMDA official said a traffic consultant would be engaged and a Detailed Project Report prepared to determine the appropriate grade-separated solution.
The mobility division was asked to examine a Foot Over Bridge near the malls on MG Road and to assess suitable entry and exit points that do not disrupt traffic, a GMDA spokesperson said.
Meena also reviewed the MG Road entry corridor from the Ghitorni side and ordered improvements to adjoining roads and green belts. The enforcement wing was told to remove building material from the area. He stressed regular enforcement to keep MG Road footpaths free of encroachments.
Representatives of resident welfare associations raised issues of pedestrian movement, parking and maintenance during the visit, the spokesperson said.
