News: Haryana to Use 2013 Land Act for Gurugram Metro Land-28-09-2026
Haryana will acquire private land for the Gurugram metro corridor under the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, officials said on Sunday, since most owners refused to sell under the newly formed direct purchase policy. A government official aware of the matter said a high powered committee under chief secretary Anurag Rastogi decided this last month while reviewing the project, and told agencies to shift utilities on Phase One, Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, quickly.
GMRL needs over 10,500 square-metre: 8,600 sq m in Islampur, 1,696 sq m in Basai and 534 sq m in Kanhai. Despite many meetings, only a few owners recently consented, and the urban estates department will begin acquisition.
Direct purchase let owners negotiate price and terms, but demands for higher compensation, alternative plots, metro jobs and multiple ownership of some parcels stalled it; an official said many owners and partners complicated purchase. The 2013 law lets the government proceed without every owner’s consent after due process, aiming to prevent delays. Compensation tracks market value, up to four times in rural areas and twice in urban areas depending on provisions and location, with rehabilitation and resettlement for eligible families.
A May notice earmarked nearly 8,653.63 sq m in Islampur under Badshahpur sub-tehsil, including parcels of 1,881 sq m, 2,759.22 sq m and two others totalling 3,637.15 sq m. In Kanhai, 534 sq m at an institutional plot in Sector 44 near Fortis Hospital was notified, and 1,695.74 sq m including smaller Sector 9 parcels was identified in Basai.
NHAI said power feeders and the water pipeline between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk will move by December 31 this year; GMDA wants the gas pipeline shifted by October 31, the official said.
