News: GMDA Hires Consultant to Link Recycled Water Pipelines-24-09-2026
A consultant has been appointed by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to prepare a detailed project report for integrating its recycled-water pipeline network in sectors 58 to 80 and 81 to 115, officials said. The authority aims to make the network functional within the next year.
The goal is to use more treated water for green belts, parks and central verges and cut reliance on potable water. A senior GMDA official, asking not to be named, said pipelines laid around these sectors are not connected and have several missing links.
At present, 56 km of pipeline is functional in sectors 1 to 57 and around 30 km partially functional in sectors 58 to 80, while 58 km in sectors 81 to 115 is non-functional.
GMDA generates 243 MLD of treated water at Dhanwapur and Behrampur, of which around 202 MLD is used: around 143 MLD goes to Jhajjar district for agriculture, 35 MLD to city horticulture and around 20 MLD to industry, with some supplied to ponds. New units at both plants will add 165 MLD by the end of next year, the official said.
