News: Basai Water Plant Expands to 370 MLD in Rs 149 Cr Project-23-09-2026
Basai’s water treatment plant is being enlarged, with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) saying on Tuesday that work started after a Rs 149-crore tender was awarded. Capacity moves from 270 million litres per day (MLD) to 370 MLD. A senior GMDA official said the contractor has 30 months to finish and that supply from Basai will reach 370 MLD.
Components are a 100 MLD Filtration Unit No. 4, two sedimentation-cum-storage tanks of 300 million litres each, a raw water pipeline and modern automation and monitoring systems. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini chaired the July meeting where the Haryana government cleared the project, and GMDA awarded the tender for the filtration unit and tanks that month.
GMDA said the added capacity should help drinking water supply in old and New Gurugram, especially Sectors 21, 22 and 23 and around 100 colonies on Basai Road, Pataudi Road, Old Railway Road and New Railway Road.
Today GMDA provides about 670 MLD of potable water via the Basai and Chandu Budhera plants. Basai has three filtration units adding up to 270 MLD, with storage of about 1,385 million litres, which will go to nearly 2,000 million litres after the expansion. Chandu Budhera runs four 100 MLD units, totalling 400 MLD, with around 1,615 million litres of storage.
