News: MCG to Restore Over 650 Dead Streetlights in Gurugram-19-09-2026
More than 650 non-functional streetlights along central verges and footpaths in Gurugram are to be restored by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), with completion expected within five to six months of contracts being awarded, officials said.
Of these, 350 are on central verges and at least 300 along footpaths. The civic body is processing tenders and will also identify damaged cables and faulty wiring. Areas covered include Old Gurugram sectors, sectors 23, 23A, 46, 56, 57 and near Khushboo Chowk. The step follows repeated complaints from pedestrians over safety.
Sachin Yadav, executive engineer (electrical), said locations were identified through a survey, inspections and complaints. Park lights are also being replaced, he said, adding that the work order has been issued and work has begun.
HT reported on May 7 that MCG would introduce an app-based system for streetlights. Officials said phase 1 has been rolled out, linking around 20,000 lights in colonies, old residential areas and villages to a centralised control monitoring system (CCMS) allowing remote switching and automatic fault alerts.
