News: Rao Inderjit Seeks Vigilance Probe Into Drain Upkeep-18-09-2026
Gurugram MP and union minister of state Rao Inderjit Singh on Friday sought an immediate vigilance inquiry into alleged negligence by the irrigation department in maintaining the city’s stormwater drains, which he blamed for persistent waterlogging.
His letter to Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, written on September 8, names a retired senior irrigation department employee. Rao said officials of GMDA, MCG, HSVP and other departments told him at a September 2 meeting that the irrigation department was responsible for keeping drains free of encroachments.
He alleged that hundreds of notices were issued to builders under the Canal and Drainage Act over seven years without any encroachment being removed, that the official suppressed the matter, and that no budget was spent on drain cleaning in that period.
The retired superintending engineer said he headed the construction circle, which maintained the drinking water channel, and that stormwater drains have traditionally been the domain of HSVP, MCG and GMDA.
