News: GMDA Tells GMRL to Add Parking to Metro Station Plans-18-09-2026
Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) must submit a comprehensive parking plan for every station within two weeks and fit the proposed metro corridor into the city’s existing transport network, officials aware of the matter said on Friday.
The instructions came from Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) CEO PC Meena at a coordination committee meeting on Thursday evening. Meena said parking is crucial in a city where many commute by private vehicle, and government land near stations would be provided wherever possible. Station designs should also include pick-up and drop-off areas, pedestrian movement and links to surrounding roads.
He asked officials to safeguard the right of way for future road widening and grade separators and, citing the underpass provision at Bhaktawar Chowk in Phase-I, sought similar provisions in Phase-II. A GMDA spokesperson said integrated and double-decker solutions at Bajghera Chowk, Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road and Sector 21 were discussed, along with possible underpasses at Sectors 3/3A/4/5 Chowk, Sheetla Mata Chowk and Rezangla Chowk.
Meena proposed a joint site visit to review the alignment along Sushil Aima Marg and directed that trees along Sushil Kumar Marg not be cut.
A senior GMRL official said parking would be added if local agencies make land available.
Foot-over-bridges at Sector 37 and Basai will be dismantled by GMRL and reinstalled by GMDA elsewhere. Affected bus stops at Millennium City Centre, Sector 37, Basai and Sector 9 will be relocated.
