News: Dhesi Orders GMDA to Close Sewer Gaps on Dwarka Expressway-15-09-2026
Following an inspection that found several sewer pipelines only partly laid, principal advisor (urban development) DS Dhesi on Monday ordered the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority’s (GMDA’s) engineering wing to complete the missing stretches in developing sectors along the Dwarka expressway. A GMDA spokesperson listed the gaps: about 170-metre stretches between sectors 87/91 and 84/88, approximately 100 metres on the road between sectors 81/86 and 83/84, and another 30-metre stretch in sectors 85/86.
Dhesi wanted time-bound action and technically viable alternative routes where land litigation or other reasons block the original alignment. He suggested, subject to feasibility, laying a line along the central verge of the Sector 82/85 dividing road, and officials were told to assess that and find a practical solution quickly. In a statement he called sewerage a basic and critical civic service, saying GMDA, HSVP and Town & Country Planning authorities must coordinate closely.
The orders matter because several parts of these sectors have no functional sewage network, with many condominiums depending on tankers to dispose of treated sewage water. GMDA and the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) have been unable to lay lines in several areas because of land-related litigation, and residents allege licences were issued before the necessary infrastructure existed. Dhesi also directed officials to put the issue before the High Court with the appropriate perspective, bearing in mind the larger public interest and the need for essential civic infrastructure.
