News: Iffco Chowk Sewer Line Fixed; NHAI to Rebuild Road-01-09-2026
The sewage pipeline whose collapse opened a large sinkhole on the Iffco Chowk service road last week has been repaired, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) said on Monday. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will now repair the road.
GMDA officials said around 10 metres of damaged pipeline at the sinkhole has been replaced and the surrounding area is being concreted to support the drain. The site will be handed to NHAI after the repairs are inspected.
A senior GMDA official said forty to fifty feet of pipeline towards MG Road was repaired with MWSL technology, in which plastic and iron cast is fixed inside the pipe to strengthen it. Another 50 feet will be repaired using the CIPP technique because the drain is undulating at several spots.
The pipeline collapsed on Tuesday at the service lane from Delhi to Jaipur side. Two service lanes have been barricaded since.
An NHAI official said the authority would first inspect the site and confirm there is no chance of leakage under the road. The sinkhole will then be filled with soil and compacted, followed by substrate material and concrete work, which is likely to take three to four days.
