News: Iffco Chowk Sinkhole: Sewer Pipe Replaced, Leak Test Monday-31-08-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) said on Sunday that most of the damaged sewage pipeline at the Iffco Chowk sinkhole has been replaced. A four- to five-foot patch has been left open so the sewer line can be desilted.
The new pipeline will be tested for leaks on Monday, after which the remaining patch will be closed. Officials said fully repairing the road, filling the sinkhole and restoring the stretch will take around three to four more days.
A 1,000 mm master sewer line collapsed at the service lane on the Delhi-to-Jaipur side on Tuesday, August 25, creating a large sinkhole. Two service lanes of the highway have been barricaded since. Pipeline rehabilitation began on Thursday, August 27. Once leak testing is complete, the stretch will be handed to NHAI for road reconstruction.
GMDA officials said sewer pipelines across the city are being surveyed, and old, dilapidated ones will be upgraded or replaced. A tender has been floated for the line from Bakhtawar Chowk to Sector 46 cut, the Sohna Road pipeline will be upgraded, and an upgrade from Iffco Chowk to Sikanderpur using MWSL technology is planned, the official said.
