News: Gurugram Waterlogging: GMDA Orders Sump at Subash Chowk-26-08-2026
Gurugram: Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) CEO PC Meena on Tuesday visited Subash Chowk, Vatika Chowk, Airia Mall and parts of Old City, a day after roads across the city were waterlogged, and told officials to adopt permanent flood-prevention measures.
For Subash Chowk, which was inundated on Monday afternoon, he ordered a sump and an additional pumping system to divert stormwater, a senior GMDA official said. Super sucker machines will desilt sewage and stormwater drains there, and rainwater harvesting systems must be kept functional.
At Vatika Chowk, officials were told to maximise diversion into the leg 4 drain to ease the load on the Badshahpur Drain.
In front of Airia Mall on Sohna Road, Meena ordered an immediate pumping arrangement to discharge water into nearby ponds/johads, a GMDA spokesperson said. Later, the water will be diverted into the surface drain proposed along the Sector 68/69 road.
At Medanta Road, the adjoining underpass and Tau Devi Lal Stadium, he asked that all existing surface drains be connected to the new drain.
Meena said root causes must be fixed through permanent engineering solutions and close coordination among departments. He said Monday’s intense rain, around 80 mm, overwhelmed the drains but water cleared in four to five hours.
