News: Underpass Across Sohna Road Proposed to Link Sectors 66-69-25-08-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has proposed an underpass on Sohna Road to directly connect the master roads of Sectors 66, 67, 68 and 69, which the Sohna Highway now separates, officials told HT.
A senior GMDA official said the underpass, modelled on the one at Vatika Chowk, would give an additional link between Sectors 58 to 67 and 68 to 80. The project is at a preliminary stage and tentatively estimated at over Rs 140 crore, with the final cost to be fixed after detailed investigations into engineering, structure and utility shifting. It will be placed before the next authority meeting, expected next week or in the first week of September and likely to be chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
According to GMDA, the underpass should cut traffic on the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) and adjoining intersections. Sanjeev Thakur, a real estate consultant with an office on Sohna Road, said most commuters between these sectors now use the congested Vatika Chowk underpass, and the new one could help prevent jams at Badshahpur.
The structure would cross the Sohna Highway (NH-248A) within the right of way of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which GMDA will approach if the proposal is approved. It plans to finish the work within 18 months, subject to right of way, utility shifting and other issues.
