News: GMRL Heads Inspect Metro Sites, Stress Utility Shifting-23-08-2026
Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) chairperson D. Thara and CEO Chander Shekhar Khare toured key sites on Saturday and told agencies to hurry utility shifting and coordinate better. The corporation aims to begin Phase One operations in August 2028.
Thara, also secretary in the department of capital development at the ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA), and Khare visited Umang Bhardwaj Chowk and Hero Honda Chowk with local officials, a GMRL official said, and were briefed on construction, constraints and milestones. Electrical utilities, road infrastructure and other services were discussed. A spokesperson said "the need for close coordination among utility-owning agencies was emphasised."
GMRL, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), DHBVN, HVPNL and other utility owners attended; a review meeting at GMRL’s office followed.
The line runs from Millennium City centre to sector nine metro station near Basai, with a Dwarka Expressway spur. Physical progress is about 12 to 13%, and the first U-shaped girders go up near sector 40 next week, where piercaps were fitted on pillars this month.
Success depends heavily on private land transfer, shifting a power substation and gas pipelines, and clearing structures between Subhash Chowk and Basai Chowk. On Friday, at the fifth high-powered committee meeting on the Gurugram metro in Chandigarh, chief secretary Anurag Rastogi told local agencies to speed land purchase and utility shifting.
