News: Synthetic Track to Replace Dirt Path at Leisure Valley Park-19-08-2026
Next month the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) starts laying a nearly 2-km synthetic track at Sector 28’s Leisure Valley Park, officials said Tuesday. Hundreds of walkers and fitness enthusiasts visit morning and evening, and the existing track is unpaved.
Tenders were invited three months ago and five companies bid, a senior official said. After the tender allocation committee, chaired by CEO PC Meena, met and negotiated, a firm won the contract at approximately Rs 3.30 crore. Completion is expected by September next year.
Praveen Kumar of GMDA’s environment division said officials toured Delhi parks and talked with staff and visitors. "It was observed that walking and running on synthetic tracks improved the comfort for visitors," he said. The contractor will upkeep it for five years to a set schedule; survey work has started and construction will finish in one year, he said.
The 16-mm track has an 8-mm recycled rubber granule base and an 8-mm ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) top, over concrete. Two staff will clean and maintain it daily.
Visitor Pawan Rana welcomed it: "It is good that the unpaved track is being upgraded."
