News: Rs 68.69 Crore Cleared for Two GMDA Road Works-19-08-2026
Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini chaired a Chandigarh meeting late Monday evening where the Haryana government’s high-powered works purchase committee (HPWPC) approved two GMDA infrastructure projects totalling Rs 68.69 crore, GMDA officials said.
The larger, at Rs 41.86 crore, rebuilds and upgrades a 7.1-km corridor between IFFCO Chowk and Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), along sector-dividing roads between Sectors 28/29, 43/44, 52/52A and 56/57, said PC Meena, chief executive officer, GMDA. The main carriageway gets a bituminous overlay and both sides get footpaths and cycle tracks. Stormwater drainage, upgraded junctions, grills and other safety work are included, with a one-year completion target. A senior GMDA official said an underpass is also coming up near Z Chowk, opposite the Millennium City Centre metro station, and removal of electricity pylons will start soon.
The Rs 26.83-crore second project links SPR with Sohna Road and eases access to Sectors 68, 69, 70, 70A, 75 and 76. It has 900 metres of new main carriageway, an overlay on 1,100 metres of the existing one, nearly 2 km of new two-lane service road, footpaths, cycle tracks and horticulture works. Meena said it "would provide an additional route for commuters".
