News: Missing 3.5-Metre Pipe Prompts CCTV Probe of Water Line-13-08-2026
A 3.5-metre section of a key water pipeline has been found missing, leading the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to order a CCTV inspection of the network from Central Peripheral Road (CPR) to Almeida Chowk.
A senior GMDA official said the gap was detected last week during testing along the CPR to NH-48. The stretch from the NH-48 cloverleaf to Almeida Chowk will now be checked by CCTV, along with leakage tests, to find any other missing sections or leaks.
The pipeline from Chandu Budhera to Vatika Chowk is needed to run the Sector 72 boosting station, which will improve supply in Sectors 58 to 71. About 15 km of the 20-km line has been tested and 23 leakages repaired. Officials expect the full repair to take two more months. Defects found in June at several points, including near Elan Mall, Ramprastha City and the CPR junction, have been fixed.
The official said over Rs 500 crore spent on water distribution infrastructure in Sector 58 to 74 cannot be fully used until the pipeline works.
HSVP awarded the tender on December 6, 2012 for about Rs 144 crore with a 21-month deadline. GMDA, constituted in 2018, took over the network. Land acquisition litigation delayed the project, officials said.
