News: ANPR Cameras Planned at 2,478 NCR Fuel Stations in Haryana-13-08-2026
The Haryana transport department is finalising a tender to select an agency to install automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras at 2,478 petrol pumps in the state’s 14 NCR districts. Officials said on Wednesday the process should be completed by next week.
The step follows May directions from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). The ANPR system must integrate with the VAHAN and pollution under control certificate (PUCC) databases by end of September, and from October 1 no NCR fuel station will serve a vehicle without a valid PUCC.
A senior official at the regional transport office (RTA) said the budget is allocated and installation will be rolled out by August end once the tender is approved. The first phase covers 775 pumps in Gurugram, Faridabad, Jhajjar and Sonepat, with a trial at 300 of them by the last week of August.
Vehicles without a registration number, with expired registration, and diesel vehicles of Bharat Stage-IV or below will also be denied fuel, officials said.
In its May 15 order, the CAQM said vehicular emissions accounted for around 23% of PM2.5 in the NCR during winters and 18% during summers.
