News: HRERA Gurugram Extends Project Deadlines by Four Months-12-08-2026
The Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (HRERA), Gurugram, has extended the completion timelines of eligible registered real estate projects by four months, saying the situation in West Asia has disrupted supply chains and caused a shortage of construction materials.
Under the order dated August 11, 2026, any completion date, revised completion date or extended completion date that falls on or after February 28, 2026, stands automatically extended by four months. Promoters do not need to file a separate application.
The benefit applies only to projects registered with the authority on or before July 31, 2026. Those registered later are not covered. The order took effect immediately.
HRERA invoked its powers under Sections 6, 7(3), 34(f) and 37 of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, and treated the West Asia situation as a force majeure event. The order also refers to an advisory dated July 31, 2026, from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to state regulators on extending project timelines in view of the crisis.
Maharashtra RERA and Telangana RERA had earlier issued similar four-month extensions, treating the situation as a "war" for the purpose of the Act’s force majeure provisions.
Developers welcomed the decision. Pradeep Aggarwal, Founder and Chairman, Signature Global (India) Ltd, called it pragmatic and said the geopolitical situation had led to acute shortages of vital construction materials. The relief gives the industry breathing room to deal with external shocks without compromising quality or project viability, he said, adding that the company remains focused on delivering quality homes and safeguarding customers’ trust.
