News: World Bank Approves Revised Rs 1,409-Crore Gurugram Metro Loan-11-08-2026
Officials said on Tuesday that the World Bank has cleared a revised Rs 1,409 crore loan proposal for Gurugram metro’s second phase, while senior Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) and Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) officials evaluate the tender.
Filed in June, the proposal is for the 13km Sector 9-Cyber Hub corridor. A senior GMRL official said the revised tender covers civil work: track, stations and some double-decker stretches. Traction and design were removed because the Bank would not fund the full Rs 2,700 crore need. Evaluation includes the managing director, and tendering starts once approved, he said.
There will be 14 stations: Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera Road, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, Sector 23A, Sector 22, Udyog Vihar Phase 4, Udyog Vihar Phase 5 and Cyber City, plus a spur toward the Gurugram railway station, and interchanges with Rapid Metro and the Namo Bharat Rail corridor.
For phase one, the depot tender is being evaluated and could be awarded within a month. Three pier caps are laid on the Millennium City centre-Sector 9 corridor, and heavy cranes will launch the first 28-metre U-shaped girders, cast at Sector 33, near the Sector 40 traffic signal on August 28. Land acquisition near Islampur and Basai for the depot and station is being hastened, with a Chandigarh review meeting this week. Managing director Chander Shekhar Khare said, "This is a high-priority project, and all efforts are being made to meet the timelines."
