News: NHAI Replaces Rajiv Chowk NMT Lanes With Slip Roads-10-08-2026
Slip roads will come up at Rajiv Chowk on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, officials said, with work likely to start next month. NHAI will use space freed by closing four underground lanes built for non-motorised traffic (NMT) and pedestrians. Project director Yogesh Tilak said the lanes close within two months and the hollow passages will be filled, easing congestion.
The four underpasses, built with a vehicle underpass during the junction’s redevelopment, let pedestrians, cyclists and rickshaws cross in all directions. Officials said they saw little use, were repeatedly encroached on by people living inside, and flooded. A senior NHAI official said local authorities were consulted in detail.
Tilak added that alignment for two more underpasses is final and a detailed project report is being prepared. Two flyovers above the existing NH-48 flyover for Delhi-Sohna and Sohna-Delhi traffic are also planned; the junction carries Delhi-Jaipur and local traffic.
