News: Dumper Triggers Fresh Cave-In on Sohna Road, Gurugram-10-08-2026
A dumper carrying building material got stuck on Sohna Road near SD Adarsh School on Monday evening, causing a minor cave-in at a location that has seen at least seven such incidents. NHAI barricaded the stretch and repaired the damage.
Yogesh Tilak, project director, NHAI, said the dumper was carrying material for repairs on the same stretch. There has been no settlement, but the lane will stay closed as a precaution.
The same portion collapsed on May 5 because of sewer line damage, forcing two lanes to be barricaded, after which NHAI and GMDA decided NHAI would comprehensively repair the dilapidated master sewage pipeline. Tilak said permanent repair of the line from Rajiv Chowk to Sheeshpal Vihar has been approved at Rs 58 crore and will begin after the monsoon, since the sewage has to be diverted.
The first cave-in was reported on December 24, 2023, followed by one on July 2, 2024, when a school-bus wheel got stuck in a pit. After a third in September 2024, GMDA blamed cracks in the 30-year-old pipeline. More followed in May 2025, June 2025 and between June and July 2025. On May 5, 2026, the crater widened to nearly 20 feet.
All incidents occurred between Subash Chowk and Sheeshpal Vihar near Raheja Mall. Officials said the line runs about 20 feet below the highway and carries sewage from sectors 45 to 51 to the Behrampur plant.
