News: GMDA Anti-Encroachment Drive From Monday With 12 Teams-07-08-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will begin a major drive from Monday to clear encroachments from roads and green belts under its jurisdiction, following Supreme Court directions issued on Tuesday to GMDA and other civic agencies. A joint plan was finalised on Thursday at a meeting chaired by GMDA CEO PC Meena.
Twelve teams of three members each, 36 officials and staff in all, have been formed with junior engineers from GMDA enforcement, the Infra-1 and Infra-2 divisions and the Municipal Corporation of Manesar.
RS Bhath, district town planner, GMDA, said field teams are surveying GMDA Right-of-Way (ROWs) and expect to map identified areas within 24 hours. Significant encroachments were found on Old Railway Road, New Railway Road, Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), Golf Course Extension Road and around Sector 4, 7 and 9. Public announcements will ask people to remove them voluntarily.
A database will track each area’s status and the action taken. Tenders have been floated to hire tractors, patrolling vehicles and manpower for enforcement across Sector 1 to 115, Bhath said.
The drive covers carriageways, green belts, service roads and footpaths within the ROW of sector-dividing roads, and both permanent and temporary structures on public land will be removed.
