News: Excavated Gurugram Roads Turn Hazardous in Rain-06-08-2026
Two days of heavy rain have turned roads dug up for infrastructure work in several parts of Gurugram into muddy, uneven and risky stretches, residents have complained.
Near Tulip Violet society in Sector 69, residents alleged that a road was excavated for sewer line work on Wednesday, after rainfall. Puja Anand, who lives in the society, alleged that the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) contractor dug up the road at the main entrance without notice, blocking the gate. She said commuting was hit and children could not get to school.
RK Jaiswal of Sector 69 said part of the main road was dug up with no alternative route offered, which he called a clear case of "poor planning". He felt development work should not be done in the monsoon. On Wednesday night a car got stuck in the excavated stretch and residents had to help pull it out, he said.
A GMDA official said the site was inspected on Thursday afternoon and directions were given to cover the excavated portion. Steps are being taken so that residents are not inconvenienced, the official added.
In Sector 59, residents of four condominiums said sewer laying on a road has affected their access for nearly a month, with water now collecting on the dug-up stretch. Leena Sarkar Ali of Tata Raisina said they have no other route. According to her, the deep pits have grown in number but remain exposed and without barricades, and waterlogging has made the stretch extremely dangerous.
A senior Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) official said the sewer work has progressed and the rest will be finished at the earliest. The civic body is trying to minimise inconvenience and restore normal access, the official said.
In New Palam Vihar, loose soil around an excavated service road where sewer work is under way caved in after the rain. RWA president Dinesh Yadav said the dug-up portion has become risky for commuters, especially when it rains.
