News: First Pier Cap Placed on Gurugram Metro Pillar-06-08-2026
Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) on Thursday placed the first pier cap on a pillar of phase one of the Millennium City Centre to Sector 9 metro project. A senior GMRL official said it sits on a 7.8-metre-high pier near the Sector 40 traffic signal.
A pier cap links the pier to the viaduct’s superstructure and supports the U-girders that carry the track, metro officials said. SR Sangwa, director, projects and planning, GMRL, said the cap is 10 metres long and 3 metres wide. He called it a major milestone, said U-girder launching will follow, and added that the corporation aims to make the section operational by August 2028.
Separately, GMRL has received six bids for the Sector 33 metro depot. The tender, worth approximately Rs 409 crore, was floated on June 16, and its opening was extended from July 22 to August 5. The depot is proposed on about 50 acres, for which the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) demolished 61 shops in the marble market and relocated the market.
