News: Waste Dumping Returns on Gurugram-Faridabad Road-31-07-2026
Construction and demolition (C&D) waste and municipal solid waste are again being dumped illegally at several points along the Gurugram-Faridabad Road, residents say, blaming damaged fencing and weak monitoring by civic authorities.
According to residents, the iron-mesh fencing put up earlier this year to stop dumping has been broken at several places. HT had reported on dumping along this road in October last year and in May this year.
Commuter Shikha Chauhan said dumping had reduced for a while but new spots have appeared near a military installation, Khushboo Chowk and the Gwal Pahari area, with waste visible where the fencing is damaged.
Ruchika Sethi, founder of citizen-led group Clean Air Bharat and a Gurugram resident, said the system is "broken", with no proper planning or monitoring. Vehicles carrying construction-site waste are not tracked, she said, so contractors dump it wherever they like, and officials have yet to recognise the health hazard posed by the dust.
Devender Bishnoi, consultant sanitation inspector at the MCG, said a special team monitors illegal dumping across the city and inspects three times a month. The team will visit the stretch to assess the scale and strengthen surveillance, he said.
Dust near Bandhwari
Residents and commuters also flagged rising dust, especially near the Bandhwari landfill. On July 15, after complaints, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) sprinkled water along the roadside. On Thursday, residents said such temporary steps had not provided a lasting solution.
Sumit Tayal, who commutes regularly between Faridabad and Gurugram, said the stretch near the landfill has become a health hazard, particularly for two-wheeler riders.
Bishnoi said the dust is partly caused by dumpers carrying waste to Bandhwari and that water would be sprinkled on the road daily.
