News: Centre Seeks Nod to Extend Gurugram-Bawal RRTS to Behror-30-07-2026
Rao Inderjit Singh, Union minister of state and Gurugram MP, said in a Wednesday statement that the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs wants the Sarai Kale Khan-Gurugram-Bawal Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) carried on to Behror in Rajasthan, and has asked the Ministry of Finance to approve this. The idea came up at a recent National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) meeting, after which the housing ministry wrote to the department of expenditure for a go-ahead beyond Bawal; the file went in this July.
The additional stretch would run about 11 km in Haryana and 25 km in Rajasthan, with four stations between Bawal and Behror and a 24-minute journey. Cost would rise by around Rs 8,000 crore to about Rs 43,000 crore, officials added.
Singh recalled that the first-phase plan reached Neemrana-Behror, but was trimmed to Dharuhera and then Bawal, even as organisations and residents in Haryana and Rajasthan sought its restoration. In January this year the Union housing ministry cleared Delhi-Bawal, a proposal the Haryana government had approved last year. The decision to extend, Singh said, weighed the logistics hub being built at Nangal Chaudhary, IMT Bawal’s future expansion and Rajasthan’s Khushkhera-Behror-Neemrana Investment Region. He said it would "greatly boost the economy of South Haryana and neighbouring Rajasthan", benefiting people and industry in both states.
At a May review, NCRTC officials described the Delhi-Gurugram-SNB (Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror) Namo Bharat line as a 93.5-km RRTS connecting Delhi with Gurugram, Manesar, Dharuhera, Rewari and Bawal. Topographical surveys, utility mapping, building condition surveys and initial pile load tests are done, and geotechnical investigations are over 90% complete. Utility shifting, underground cabling and forest clearances are under way, and most GMDA, NHAI, Forest Department and HVPNL approvals are in hand.
