News: GMCBL Board Approves 25 New CNG Buses for Gurugram-29-07-2026
Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL) will add 25 new standard-floor, BS-VI compliant CNG buses in place of 25 older ones that are no longer operationally efficient, after its board cleared the proposal on Tuesday, officials said.
A senior official said the concessionaire had submitted the proposal. The 12-metre buses seat 36 passengers each and are expected over the next three months. The fleet will remain at 150 buses. A decision on the old buses, which the concessionaire owns, will come later.
GMCBL CEO Vishwajeet Chaudhary said the new buses will reduce breakdowns and improve reliability and commuter comfort. He said the first fully air-conditioned 25-seater electric bus has been delivered and will shortly undergo trials. Another 24 are expected soon, with 100 to be added in phases, allowing services to expand to new areas.
Officials said the electric buses have a range of more than 236 kilometres on a single charge and can be fully charged in about 30 minutes. They have six seats reserved for women, reserved seating for senior citizens and wheelchair space.
At the 40th board meeting, Chaudhary also said fares can now be paid through any UPI-enabled application, and that digital transactions make up around 30% of fare payments.
