News: Gurugram Accident Spot Audit Finds 20 Recurring Faults-27-07-2026
Officials said on Monday that a road safety audit found weak lighting, unauthorised median openings and no retro reflective markings at major crash-prone Gurugram sites.
Preliminary findings came in the district’s second inspection round under the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways (MoRTH) zero fatalities initiative. Experts, including deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) Prateek Gehlot, inspected Panchgaon and the Sector 53/54, 42/43 and 31 intersections on July 21; February’s round covered Jharsa, Atlas, Iffco and Sector 33 on the Delhi-Gurugram (NH-48) expressway corridors.
The 20 issues include damaged or missing crash barriers, no pavement markings, improper pedestrian infrastructure, untreated intersections, narrow shoulders, missing signboards, unauthorised parking and inadequate lighting. Sector 53/54 on Golf Course Road and the Sector 31 area showed overspeeding, wrong-side driving and unsafe pedestrian crossings.
At Panchgaon Chowk, teams saw unpaved median openings by Fauji Dhaba and advised streetlights, reflective markings, crash barriers, more signages and speed-calming at the Sector 30/31 intersection. Safe pedestrian crossings and geometric fixes to dividers were urged to stop sharp, illegal turns. Officials blamed wrong-side driving, poor lane discipline and jaywalking by people from nearby industrial sectors.
Panchgaon Chowk crashes fell from 21 in 2023 to 14, non-fatal ones from 17 to 4, but deaths held at 11, police data show. Data before the DRSC showed many crashes on the Kundli Manesar Palwal (KMP) section of the interchange, the first review to study such patterns, police said.
A detailed report with short and long-term measures goes to the district road safety committee, which also looked at Bilaspur, Binola, Narsinghpur, Manesar Ghati, Ghamroj and others. Over speeding, rash and wrong-side driving were main causes at Ghamroj Toll Plaza, Vatika Chowk and Manesar Ghati. Last year three people died in sixteen accidents at Rampura Chowk and Ghamroj Toll Plaza, while fatalities at Vatika Chowk and Manesar Ghati went from none in 2023 to eleven last year, respectively. Black spots were mapped in May.
