News: Old Gurugram Railway Roads to Be Redesigned by GMDA-23-07-2026
With more pedestrians and vehicles expected, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) plans to rework Old Railway Road and New Railway Road in Old Gurugram, particularly because a metro corridor is coming and the city railway station will be redeveloped. A request for proposal has been floated to hire a consultant for the detailed project report (DPR), due within three months.
A senior GMDA official said the work covers Old Railway Road from Rajiv Chowk to the Railway Station (7.5 km) and New Railway Road from Mahavir Chowk to the Sector 4/7 junction (2.1 km). Both pass through crowded areas such as Sadar Bazar, Sector 4, Sector 5, Civil Lines, Mini Secretariat, Jacobpura and several residential colonies.
Options include geometric improvements, carriageway optimisation, junction channelisation, dedicated turning lanes, acceleration and deceleration lanes, median improvements, traffic islands and better service roads. The official said the consultant will study available space and right of way and propose footpaths, crossings and road safety furniture, aiming to raise capacity, cut conflict points, improve visibility and make travel safer for motorists and pedestrians. Upgrading will proceed on the consultant’s report and recommendations, he said.
