News: Gurugram-Pataudi-Rewari Highway Deadline Extended to Sept 30-21-07-2026
The 46.1-kilometre Gurugram-Pataudi-Rewari highway has a new completion date of September 30. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) extended the deadline on Monday, citing a bitumen shortage linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia and pending work on three structures. It is the sixth extension for a project originally due in November 2023. The earlier deadline was March 2026.
A senior NHAI official, asking not to be named, said around 84% of the work is done, with major flyovers, underpasses and culverts built. Three flyovers between Wazirpur and Dwarka Expressway will open by the end of this month and the flyover on Dwarka Expressway will be finished by September 30. He said NHAI is trying to source imported bitumen because the war in the Gulf has made procurement difficult.
According to officials, pending structures include flyovers at Bawra, Bakipur and Jamalpur and a railway overbridge (ROB) at Pahari village. The official said about 70% of work on the pending structures is complete. The railways have permitted casting of girders on the ROB, but timing depends on their nod based on train movement.
Awarded in 2020, the project originally covered 81 culverts, 23 vehicular underpasses, one railway overbridge and two flyovers. Around 10 structures were added later, contributing to delays, officials said.
The highway starts at Sector 84 on Dwarka Expressway and runs to Rewari via Wazirpur village on the Gurugram-Pataudi Road.
