News: Rs 149-Crore Basai Plant Expansion Cleared for Gurugram Water-21-07-2026
The high-powered works purchase committee led by chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday cleared a Rs 149 crore Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) project: a 100 million litres per day (MLD) treatment unit plus two sedimentation and storage tanks for the Basai water treatment plant. Capacity there rises from 270 MLD to 370 MLD, with 600 million litres of storage added.
GMDA officials said five companies bid and three qualified. Construction should begin in about two months, once the contractor finishes statutory and procedural formalities. CEO PC Meena said in a statement that GMDA will fund the work, which will take 30 months and covers 100 MLD Filtration Unit No. 4, two sedimentation-cum-storage tanks of 300 million litres each, a raw water pipeline and modern automation and monitoring systems, improving operational efficiency.
GMDA supplies around 670 MLD of potable water via Basai and Chandu Budhera. Basai has three filtration units totalling 270 MLD and about 1,385 million litres of storage, heading to nearly 2,000 million litres. Chandu Budhera runs four 100 MLD units, 400 MLD in all, with around 1,615 million litres of storage.
