News: IKEA to Open 30,000 Sq Ft Saket Store on July 30-21-07-2026
IKEA will open a 30,000 sq ft city store at DLF Avenue, Saket, on July 30, the Swedish furniture retailer’s second such outlet in Delhi and its fourth city-format store in India after Mumbai (Worli), Pune and West Delhi (Pacific Mall, Subhash Nagar). The launch comes a year after the company began e-commerce services in Delhi-NCR and opened its first physical touchpoint in the capital.
Patrik Antoni, CEO, IKEA India, said the store would make the range easier to reach for more customers. Pooja Grover, Country Expansion Manager, IKEA India, told reporters in Delhi that the city is "a priority and growth market", and that after eight years in India the company aims to operate 30 stores by 2030.
Designed around South Delhi homes
Before the opening, IKEA teams visited homes in Malviya Nagar, Greater Kailash, Lajpat Nagar and South Extension to study local lifestyles. Aadosh Sharma, Country Commercial Manager, IKEA India, told reporters on July 21 that South Delhi homes blend modern and cultural aesthetics, and that residents take pride in outdoor spaces, enjoy hosting and keep adapting their homes.
The store has nine fully designed room settings, including multifunctional living rooms, home offices, wardrobes designed for Indian clothing, dining spaces and outdoor furniture. Nearly 3,000 products can be browsed, about 1,400 of them available for immediate takeaway. The full catalogue of over 6,900 products can be ordered through the website, app or Shop by Phone service.
Services include interior planning, kitchen and wardrobe design consultations, assembly and installation, warranties of 5 to 25 years and home delivery. Parcel deliveries start at Rs 49, and customised kitchens can typically be delivered within four to five days after planning, Sharma said. The store will also have the brand’s café.
Gurugram and Noida
For Gurugram and Noida, each project will have a flagship store of approximately 2 lakh sq ft within a mixed-use destination of shopping, restaurants, offices and hospitality. Grover said city stores complement large-format ones, and that formats range from 15,000 sq ft city stores to flagships of over 4 lakh sq ft depending on demand and available real estate.
India in IKEA’s global business
IKEA, in business globally for more than 80 years, has sourced from India for over 50 years and entered the market in 2018 with a Hyderabad store. It now has seven stores across Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune and Delhi: three large-format stores in Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Navi Mumbai and four city stores in Worli, West Delhi, Pune and South Delhi. It also runs a Plan and Order Point in Bengaluru and distribution centres in Pune and Gurugram.
Sharma said around 30% of products sold in IKEA India are sourced locally, the country exports goods worth around €2 billion a year to IKEA stores worldwide, and a product development centre has been set up here. With nearly 80% of the Indian furniture market still unorganised, he said the aim is to expand the market rather than take share from existing players. Online sales make up around 30% of the India business, reaching more than 80 markets.
