News: Sector 99A Eight-Hour Blackout Revives Substation Demand-19-07-2026
A power cut lasting nearly eight hours, from 8pm to 4am, hit more than 10,000 residents of seven condominiums in Sector 99A on Saturday night. The affected societies were Pareena Lakshmi, Pareena Coban, Habitat 99A, Cosmos Express 99, Assotech Blith, Habitat Prime and Pareena Elite.
A senior power distribution company official said a 66 kV transmission line along the Delhi-Jaipur highway (NH48) at Narsinghpur snapped on Saturday evening, affecting 10 feeders of 11kV each. Two were restored, but the rest took time for technical reasons.
Residents said cuts of one to two hours occur almost daily. Parveen Thakur said inverters ran out within three to four hours, leaving people without power in humid conditions, and called the infrastructure of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) poor. Another resident, Santosh Kumar, said the utility should have told residents how long repairs would take, and that generator and inverter costs add significantly to electricity expenses.
Residents also said a 220 kV substation, though built, has not been commissioned for over a year, contributing to outages.
A DHBVN official said heavy traffic on the highway hampered repairs and that a three-day shutdown on the Badhshahpur circuit for scheduled maintenance left no alternative supply. He said the substation’s commissioning was delayed because land was not available for transmission lines, but work has begun and will be completed in four to five months.
