News: DMRC Drafts 20-km Underground Link to Rajiv Chowk-15-07-2026
Haryana government officials said the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has drafted a detailed project report (DPR) for a fully underground 20-kilometre Metro link joining Yashobhoomi Metro Station, on the Airport Express Line, to Rajiv Chowk, Gurugram. The Union ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA) received it, and the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) on June 19.
A senior state official put the cost near Rs 13,500 crore, with about 8km in Delhi and 12km in Gurugram. The route goes through Dhul Siras, Bharthal, Bijwasan and Kapashera, enters Gurugram through Mollahera, Udyog Vihar and IFFCO Chowk, and ends at Rajiv Chowk via the Delhi Jaipur Highway. Stations proposed, all underground: Bijwasan, Kapashera, Sector 22, IFFCO Chowk and Rajiv Chowk. The official said Gurugram and West Delhi would be better connected.
An HMRTC official said DMRC merged two earlier alignments, Yashobhoomi to Rajiv Chowk and Sector 21 Dwarka to IFFCO Chowk, after MoHUA directed a change. HMRTC also suggested a spur from Rezangla Chowk to Dwarka Sector 21. The ministry is reviewing both and its directions will be implemented, he said.
Separately, Phase I construction has started between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk after encroachments and utilities were cleared from the carriageway. An HSVP official said parts of a religious building near Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, a CNG station and a sweet shop were removed. A senior GMRL official called the clearance "crucial for meeting deadlines" and said power lines and a substation should move by December this year.
