News: Encroachments on Natural Drains in Urban Villages to Go-14-07-2026
The district enforcement authority said on Monday that it will clear encroachments and illegal constructions from government land in urban villages, concentrating on properties that block natural storm water drains, a key cause of waterlogging in nearby colonies.
Officials said such encroachment has obstructed the natural flow of rainwater and pushed it into colonies. The department will map and demarcate the drains’ exact boundaries before starting demolitions.
RS Bhath, district town planner, GMDA, and nodal officer (enforcement), said a team visited Nathupur last week and told residents that illegal structures on drain and government land would be removed. Drains are choked and buildings have replaced them in many places, he said. A detailed assessment will be done, with a drone survey if needed.
The exercise will cover Nathupur, Sikanderpur, Medhawas, Ullahwas and other villages along the Southern Peripheral Road. Bhath said natural drains and crevices along Golf Course Road, many now filled with debris and waste, will be cleared.
The department said it has already freed 250 acres of government land, including green belts, in developing sectors, and recently reclaimed large tracts meant for tourism in Sohna. Nathupur property owners will be asked for valid ownership documents, and Bhath said a panchayat can be held if villagers wish.
